MCC S3 Ride - Sun 19 May 2013

posted Apr 25, 2013, 7:56 PM by Melton Cycling Club   [ updated May 15, 2013, 2:18 AM ]

On 19 May we will be riding from Gisborne to Woodend and then on to Newham (near Hanging Rock) before retracing our steps.
The ride distance is approx. 80km and a map of the route can be viewed  here.

Riders who may find the full ride distance daunting should consider either just riding Gisborne-Woodend return or commencing and finishing their ride in Woodend.

For those riders wishing to ride the full route from Gisborne, you will meet at Gardiner Reserve (opposite the aquatic centre) at 7:15am to be ready for a 7:30am departure.
Riders who do not wish to ride the hill out of Gisborne will meet at the Ross Watt Reserve in New Gisborne at 7:15am to be ready for a 7:30am departure.

It is anticipated both groups will be in Woodend around 8:15am. Riders who wish to join the ride at Woodend need to be there around 8am in anticipation of the arrival of the Gisborne riders.
The Woodend meeting point will be the same place we stopped after the Trentham ride, the car park on Margery Crescent, just past Forest Street.

It is anticipated that there will be a coffee break at the Newham General Store before we return to our departure points.

The weather forecast for Sunday indicates the prospect of a cloudy day with a chance of showers.
Given that it is normally colder in Gisborne, riders should dress accordingly and perhaps include a rain vest in the event the showers arrive.

Anzac Day Ride (Thu 25 April)

posted Apr 5, 2013, 10:49 PM by Melton Cycling Club   [ updated Apr 16, 2013, 2:12 PM ]

Melton to Williamstown & return

These plans are still subject to fine-tuning but it is envisaged that riders will gather at Hannah Watts Park from 7:20am for a 7:30 departure.

The first group (MEDIUM PACE) will head off at this time and travel along the Western Highway to Caroline Springs Lake – anticipated arrival around 8:05-8:10am.
They will collect any riders joining from Caroline Springs before travelling on to Williamstown.

A map of the planned route can be viewed HERE
.

The second group (FAST PACE) will depart from Melton around 7:50am and will follow the same route as the earlier group.
Their anticipated arrival time in Caroline Springs is 8:15-8:20am.

Both groups should be in Williamstown by 9:20am. The destination café has yet to be determined but is likely to be in the Nelsons Place precinct.

For the return journey, both groups will travel along Millers Road and part of the Federation trail before heading through the Laverton Industrial area back to Caroline Springs and ultimately Melton.
Everyone should be back in Melton by 12:30pm.

An easier ride option is available departing from the Cherry Lake car park in Altona around 8:15am and travelling along bike paths to Williamstown to meet with the other riders.
Following coffee, these riders will return to their cars via the same route.
